Rascasse Art & Illustration is a Perth based business specialising in scientific and other illustrations, run by Rachel O'Shea. Rachel is a trained artist with a degree in Marine Biology and Zoology. Having a background in both art and science allows Rachel to produce high quality scientific illustrations that follow strict taxonomic guidelines, as well as produce vibrant artworks.
Rachel works in a range of mediums including watercolour, oil, acrylic, pencil and scraperboard. Rachel recently spent 4 years living and working in New Caledonia working for the Secretariat of the Pacific Communities producing scientific illustrations for identification manuals, guides and posters for multinational distribution.
The Galleries contain many examples of Rachel's work, both scientific and artistic, many of which have been used in international publications. Some of Rachel's recent published work includes the manual Fish species identification manual for deep-bottom Snapper fishermen, and a poster of Marine Invertebrates of the Pacific Islands, both published for the Secretariat of the Pacific Communities (SPC). Rachel has also recently completed a range of large artworks for the offices of Gaia Resources.
Rachel has work held in private collections in Canada, France, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Denmark and Australia.
